New York (December 2009): On February 1, 2010, Police Commissioner of the City of New York Raymond W. Kelly will accept the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2009 Hotel Excellence Awards, the annual travel and hospitality industry gala presented by publisher MVP/NY, the leading source of New York City information for visitors and locals.
The award, whose past recipients include hospitality giant Jonathan Tisch and NYC & Company President and CEO Cristyne Nicholas, is presented to individuals whose career achievements have made a major impact on New York City’s travel and tourism industry. Under his leadership, the NYPD has cut city crime by nearly 40% since 2001. A 40- year veteran of the NYPD, Ray Kelly started with the department in 1963 and served in 25 different commands before being named Police Commissioner.
Commissioner Kelly has also served as Commissioner of the U.S. Customs Service, where he was awarded the Alexander Hamilton Medal for Exceptional Service; Under Secretary for Enforcement at the U.S. Treasury Department; Vice President for the Americas of Interpol and Director of the International Police Monitors in Haiti, for which he was awarded the Exceptionally Meritorious Service Commendation by the President of the United States.
