Travelers Choose the Best NYC Hotel Experience
New York (February 2011): On Monday evening, January 31, 2011, MVP/NY, the multi-media travel publishing giant, hosted the 2010 Hotel Excellence Awards (HEA)—in cooperation with the Hotel Association of New York City, Inc.—at Cipriani Wall Street, in which the best of the NYC hotel industry were honored. As part of the exclusive, black-tie gala, the “Hotel Experience Awards” were also bestowed, which honor the finest the NYC hospitality community has to offer, as voted upon by the readers of IN New York magazine and users of mvpny.net, guests of the hotels. Online and mail-in ballots were cast in six categories, covering hotels with 500 rooms or more and hotels with less than 500 rooms.
2010 Hotel Experience Award Winners (Hotels with 500 Rooms or More):
- Best Concierge Service - The InterContinental New York Barclay
- Best Room Amenities - The W New York Times Square
- Best Hotel Restaurant - The New York Palace Hotel
- Best Family–Friendly Hotel - New York Marriott Marquis
- Best Business Services - Hilton New York
- Best Overall Hotel Experience - The New York Palace Hotel
2010 Hotel Experience Award Winners (Hotels with 500 Rooms or Less):
- Best Concierge Service - The Pierre New York, A Taj Hotel
- Best Room Amenities - The Benjamin
- Best Hotel Restaurant - The St. Regis New York
- Best Family–Friendly Hotel - The Plaza Hotel
- Best Business Services - Trump International Hotel & Towers New York
- Best Overall Hotel Experience - The Pierre New York, A Taj Hotel
The HEA program also included the “Silver Plume Awards”, which honor exemplary customer service and performance by Concierges and Managers, as chosen by their peers (see mvpny.net for winners), as well as featuring three additional awards:
- The JCPenney Hotel Excellence Award for Community Service presented to Harald Mootz, Concierge, The St. Regis New York
- The New York City Association of Hotel Concierges’ (NYCAHC) Special Recognition Award given by the NYCAHC president, Domenic Alfonzetti to Loida Diaz, Concierge, The Trump International Hotel & Towers and PR liaison for the NYCAHC
- The MVP/NY 2010 Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by the 2009 winner, NYC Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, to actress, author and producer Whoopi Goldberg.
Entertainment for the affair was provided by Broadway’s Sister Act and Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Manhattan City Music, as well as a charitable Silent Auction—containing hundreds of luxury items—to benefit the Les Clefs d'Or Foundation, the New York City Association of Hotel Concierges' Charitable Fund, the Hotel Association of New York City Scholarship Fund and the ITM Hospitality Fund.
